About The Artist
I have been crafting jewellery and products of the highest quality and standard since late 2003. I individually select and quality check each bead and component to ensure the resulting product meets top standards.
Beginning as a hobby, I began selling my handcrafted jewellery to friends and family, and in 2005 I began retailing via eBay auctions where many sales were conducted. Making jewellery was great, but I always felt that I needed something else that would make my work stand out from the rest... and making my own lampwork beads made perfect sense.
I have been lampworking since December 2005 - a hobby which was discovered and is deeply admired. I love playing with fire and molten glass, and the designs that come into my head are endless... playing with lampwork is great because each individual bead is unique - Each one has its own story behind it and no where else in the world will you find another one like it.
During my first 3 years of lampworking, I was entirely self-taught with the help of books, lots of practice and patience. I worked on a single fuel hot head torch for 4 years before moving onto a dual-fuel GTT cricket torch.
I primarily use a variety of soft glass types which include Italian Moretti/Effetre and Vetrofond, and American CIM, Double Helix and Bullseye glass just to name a few. I also work with other mediums such as cubic zirconia(s), gold and silver leaf/foil, fine silver wire, frits, enamels and mica powder to achieve different textures and effects. All of my lampwork pieces are kiln annealed for durability and long lasting beauty.
Artists whom I have taken classes with include:
- Akihiro Ohkama - May 2008
- Bernard Stonor - July 2009
- Loren Stump - July 2010
- Corina Tettinger - April 2011
I completed my Bachelor's degree in June 2008 at Sydney's Macquarie University, and am currently working full time in the IT industry as a Web Designer and Developer. Outside of full time work and working on "Veeanca", I enjoy sewing and playing with different fabrics for their colours and textures. I also enjoy all things food - fine dining, cooking, and baking. Trying to master the perfect macaron is my latest challenge!
